5:00 AM – 6:45 AM: Transition area open for bike and running gear setup

6:50 AM: Mandatory pre-race meeting 

7:00 AM: Races Start

~8:30 AM: Grab and Go awards begin to be available

PARKING

*There is plenty of parking at a nearby parking lot, preferbaly not at the Lake b/c it can impede race flow and potentially block Fire Trucks exiting the Fire Station on the south end.  An email race week will show the park lot location, as will signs on the course as you arrive at the race.​

PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION

*Bring a photo ID and your USAT License (if you have one) to packet pickup and registration.

*USAT waivers and one day USAT licenses will be taken care of here.

*Cash, check, credit card, Venmo, and Paypal payments(3% fee) can be accepted for day before and race day registrations.

RACE TIMING, RESULTS, AND TIMING CHIP PICKUP

*Results will be posted live at RubleTiming.com, and on monitors scrolling at the race start

*Post-race results will be posted on this website and will be put up on display at the race site as soon as available.

*Results will include overall time, splits for all segments of the race including transitions, and placings.

*Timing chips will be given out in race bags for pre-registered and day before registration.   Race Day give as you register

*Soft neoprene ankle straps will be provided to secure the chips to your ankle

NUMBERING

*All participants must be body marked race morning with a permanent marker by a volunteer, and will receive a wristband at packet pickup that is mandatory to wear during the race.

CLOTHING

*Males must wear speedo-cut bottoms, jammers, or shorts at minimum

*Females must wear swim suit bottoms and public swimming appropriate tops at minimum.

SWIM COURSE

*This is a lake swim at Lake Clare with a planned TT starts from the beach

*Sprint is one small lap, Olympic is 2 big laps, Half Iron is 2 'bigger' laps

*Great spectator swim course with views on shore above the swimmers

*Individual TT style starts

*Buoys will mark the course turns

*Kayaks and other safety personel will line the course

*For the race start, race numbers do not determine starting order.  This is a self-seeded start by choice.

*Your individual chip time starts when you cross the mat to enter the water, and stops at the run finish.

*Swim caps will be provided

*Water temperature could be between 74 and 80 degrees this time of year

*Water temperatures up to and including 78 degrees wetsuits are allowed

*If the water temperature is between 78-84 degrees  you can still wear a wetsuit but will be asterisk in results

*Water temperatures is at 84 degrees or higher no wetsuits allowed.

TRANSITION

*Participants are to place bicycles, helmets, sunglasses, run shoes, hats, etc in the transition area.

*Volunteers will assist in proper racking of bicycles on the bike racks and how to lay out transition items.

*Maximum of 8 bicycles per rack, first come first serve placement.

*Transition will be in the grass near the beach at the south end of the lake

*Only participants and volunteers can enter the transition area.

*Participants enter transition for the first time during the race after the swim finish to get their bicycles and head out onto the bike course.

*Participants enter transition for the second and final time during the race after finishing the bike course, re-rack their bicycles, and start the run.

*There will be an aid station near the transition

*No nudity is allowed in transition, please plan race clothing accordingly.

BIKE COURSE

*Both the Sprint and Olympic courses are out and back

*Half Iron Bike course is 2 laps, much of each lap mimicks the Olympic course minus one out and back addition

*The bike course is open to traffic with police at the park exit and all intersections stopping traffic, roads are county roads with very low traffic.

*All turns, and turn-around points, will be marked with roadside signs and road chalk markings.

*We'll have a mechanic on hand to help with any last minute bike problems and provide pumps. 

*All participants are responsible for fixing their own flat tires and minor mechanicals while on the bike course.

*There are no aid stations on the sprint or olympic bike courses

*The Half Iron course has 3 aid stations (~20 miles, 28 miles, and 48 miles) with Gatorade and Water

*A vehicle will be following the last biker on the bike course, and can pick up any participant who has had a race ending mechanical. There likely will be a lead vehicle for at least one distance

*All bike styles are welcome as long as they do not have a motor of any kind and do not pose out of the ordinary danger to other riders

RUN COURSE

*The Sprint run course will be on all pavement roads within the park

*The Olympic and Half Iron run course will be on an out and back course that starts in the park and then proceeds into town on the paved trails system and uses the new stretch of the trail system.  This is new for hte Olympic to run one out and back lap, and the half iron as well will run 2x out and back and will no longer run the XC course segment on the hills and grass

*Great spectator run course with views of runners across the lake for the start and finish of each lap and for the entire sprint tri run

*The courses will be marked with signs and tape  Volunteers will also help direct runners.

*There will be frequent aid stations in the park (every .75 miles) and once out of the park on the Olympic and Half Iron about every mile.

*Stations will have water, gatorade, coke, gels, and if hot enough cold ice towels will be on the run course

HELMETS AND AUDIO DEVICES

*All participants must complete the bike portion wearing a helmet approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  Check your helmet for this sticker.

*Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.

RELAYS AND AQUABIKERS

*Relay teams will share a timing chip and transfer the chip in the transition area.

*Aqua bikers will swim and bike with all the triathlete racers and then need to do a short walk or jog after transition 2 to finish

RESTROOMS

*There will be porta-johns on site near transition

*There will be porta johns on the run course as well for half iron racers

T-SHIRTS, MEDALS, AWARDS

*T-Shirts will be in the race packet. 

*Finisher medals will be given at the finish line. 

*Awards for top 2-3 in each USAT age group for the Triathlons, plus overall winners 39 and under and 40 and over.   Duathlons and Aquabikes awards are determined by race turnout with a minimum of 39 and under plus 40 and over top 3's.  Relays are typically for overall winning teams.

FOOD AND WATER

*Water will be available at the transition area and on the run course.

*No water will be available on the bike course, so please plan accordingly. 

*Drinks and some snack food will be available post-race at the finish line.

CONTINGENCY PLANS

*In the event it is unsafe to swim the race will turn to a duathlon (triathletes) or bike only(aquabikers)

*If it’s unsafe to ride the race will become a swim and run (triathletes)...or just a swim (aquabikers)

*If it's unsafe to swim and ride the race will become just a run (triathletes) or be cancelled(aquabikers)

*The race start may be delayed up to 1 hour if the weather is anticipated to clear up.

*If weather forces a cancellation we can offer a 50% discount to a future 2024/25 event.

USAT Rules

*A complete list of USAT rules can be found at www.usatriathlon.org.  A list of commonly violated rules can be found below

*If all participants do their best to follow the rules and race fairly, there should be no issues.​

Most Commonly Violated Rules and Penalties

1. Helmets:

Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means before, during, and after the event.

Penalty: Disqualification

 

2. Chin Straps:

Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your chin strap unless you are off your bicycle.

Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty in transition area only.

 

3. Outside Assistance:

No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used. Triathlons and duathlons are individual tests of fitness.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

4. Transition Area:

All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another participant’s equipment or impede the progress of another participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

5. Drafting:

Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds.

Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing.

Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass.

Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

6. Course:

All competitors are required to follow the prescribed course and to stay within all coned lanes. Cutting the course is an obvious violation and going outside the course is a safety issue. Cyclists shall not cross a solid yellow center line for ANY reason. Cyclists must obey all applicable traffic laws at all times.

Penalty: Referee's discretion

 

7. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct:

Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden.

Penalty: Disqualification

 

8. Headphones:

Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.

9. Race numbers:

All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing.

Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number, Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission.

10. Wetsuits:

Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

 

11. Abandonment:

All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course.
