*5:00 - 7:00 PM: Packet pickup and late registration @ Geist Waterfront Park

5:30 AM-7:30 AM: Race day registration, timing chip pickup, body marking, and packet pickup

5:30 AM – 7:45 AM: Transition area open for bike and running gear setup

7:50 AM: Mandatory pre-race meeting 

8:00 AM: Races Start

~9:30 AM: Grab and Go awards begin to be available

PARKING

*On site for all racers, and a nearby school parking lot will be open about a 1/2 mile walk on paved path to venue.​

​

PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION

*Bring a photo ID and your USAT License (if you have one) to packet pickup and registration.

*USAT waivers and one day USAT licenses will be taken care of here.

*Cash, check and credit card, Venmo, and Paypal(3% fee for online and card payments)can be accepted for day before and race day registrations.

RACE TIMING, RESULTS, AND TIMING CHIP PICKUP

*Chip timed results with all splits

*Post-race results will be available at rubletiming.com live during the race, and on display on screens at the race site

*Timing chips will be given out at registration / packet pickup

*Soft neoprene ankle straps will be provided to secure the timing chips.

NUMBERING

*All participants must be body marked race morning with a permanent marker by a volunteer, and will receive a wristband at packet pickup that is mandatory to wear during the race.

​​

CLOTHING

*Males must wear speedo-cut bottoms, jammers, or shorts at minimum

*Females must wear swim suit bottoms and public swimming appropriate tops at minimum.

​

SWIM COURSE

*This is a swim in the Geist Cove and Geist Reservoir(Oympic only out there) from the waterfront large beach.

*1 Lap for the sprint swim; 2 laps with beach exit for the olympic swim

*Buoys will mark the course turns

*~10 boats will be on the water with lifegaurds

*A optional mass start will precede the individual TT style start for those less confident

*For TT start races your individual chip time starts when you cross the mat to enter the water, and stops at the run finish.

*Water temperature will likely be above 78 degrees this time of year, but likely below 84 degrees 

*Water temperatures up to and including 78 degrees wetsuits are allowed

*Age Groupers if the water temperature is between 78-84 degrees you can still wear a wetsuit but will be asterisk in results

*Water temperatures is at 84 degrees or higher no wetsuits allowed.

*See ‘USAT Rules’ section below for more info on rules regarding wetsuits.

TRANSITION

*Participants are to place bicycles, helmets, sunglasses, run shoes, hats, etc in the transition area.

*Volunteers will assist in proper racking of bicycles on the bike racks and how to lay out transition items.

*Maximum of 8 bicycles per rack, first come first serve placement.

*Transition will be in the grass area close to the road (up hill from beach and across parking lot)

*Only participants and volunteers can enter the transition area.

*There will be an aid station near the transition

*No nudity is allowed in transition, please plan race clothing accordingly.

BIKE COURSE

*Helmets must met CPSC standards and not be damaged or altered

*Sprint course is one lap; olympic course is 2 laps with an entry back into the park to finish lap 1 before returning onto the course on Olio Road.

*The bike course will have police at necessary intersections to stop traffic and allow bicylces right of way.  The course otherwise will be open to traffic, other than the small stretch to start and finish each lap on Olio road where cyclists will have one lane to themselves.

*Gently rolling hills throughout the bike course

*All turns, will be marked with roadside signs and tape markings.

*Med Sports and a local TBD bike shop will help with any last minute bike problems and provide pumps.

*All participants are responsible for fixing their own flat tires and minor mechanicals while on the bike course.

*There are no aid stations on the bike course, but there is one near transition and on the run there is one ~ every 3/4 mile.

*See ‘USAT Rules’ for more info on cycling rules.  Cycling rule specifics and other rules will be gone over in the pre-race meeting.

RUN COURSE

*The run courses will be on a paved pedestrian path and quiet neighborhood streets along Geist Reservoir.

*Both course are out and back, with the Olympic completing two laps

*The run course is flat

*The courses will be marked with signs and tape arrows.  Race staff will also help direct runners.

*There will be an aid station roughly every 3/4 mile on each run course plus one at each side of transition

HELMETS AND AUDIO DEVICES

*All participants must complete the bike portion wearing a helmet approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  Check your helmet for this sticker.

*Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.

RELAYS AND AQUABIKERS

*Relay teams will share a timing chip and transfer the chip in the transition area.

*Aqua bikers will swim and bike with all the triathlete racers and then need to do a short walk from transition 2 to finish line to turn in chip

RESTROOMS

*There will be a porta johns in the park in addition to likely having access to park restroom facilities.

*During the race 1 of the porta-john will be available near the transition area.

​

T-SHIRTS, MEDALS, AWARDS

*T-Shirts will be in the race packet. 

*Finisher medals will be given at the finish line. 

*Overall, masters, and grand masters awards for male and female in each race category

*Awards in USAT age groups in the triathlon.

FOOD AND WATER

*Water will be available at the transition area along with Gatorade and Coke on the run approximately every 3/4 mile

*No water will be available on the bike course, so please plan accordingly. 

*Drinks and some snack food will be available post-race at the finish line.

CONTINGENCY PLANS

*In the event it is unsafe to swim the race will turn to a duathlon (triathletes) or bike only(aquabikers)

*If it’s unsafe to ride the race will become a swim and run (triathletes)...or just a swim (aquabikers)

*If it's unsafe to swim and ride the race will become just a run (triathletes) or be cancelled(aquabikers)

*The race start may be delayed up to 1 hour if the weather is anticipated to clear up.

*If weather forces a cancellation we can offer a 50% discount to a future 2025/26 event.

USAT Rules

*A complete list of USAT rules can be found at www.usatriathlon.org.  A list of commonly violated rules can be found below

*If all participants do their best to follow the rules and race fairly, there should be no issues.​

Most Commonly Violated Rules and Penalties

1. Helmets:

Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means before, during, and after the event.

Penalty: Disqualification

 

2. Chin Straps:

Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your chin strap unless you are off your bicycle.

Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty in transition area only.

 

3. Outside Assistance:

No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used. Triathlons and duathlons are individual tests of fitness.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

4. Transition Area:

All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another participant’s equipment or impede the progress of another participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

5. Drafting:

Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds.

Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing.

Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass.

Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

 

6. Course:

All competitors are required to follow the prescribed course and to stay within all coned lanes. Cutting the course is an obvious violation and going outside the course is a safety issue. Cyclists shall not cross a solid yellow center line for ANY reason. Cyclists must obey all applicable traffic laws at all times.

Penalty: Referee's discretion

 

7. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct:

Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden.

Penalty: Disqualification

 

8. Headphones:

Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.

Penalty: Variable time penalty

9. Race numbers:

All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing.

Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number, Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission.

10. Wetsuits:

Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

 

11. Abandonment:

All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course.
